KS4: BTEC Tech award in Child Development
The early years sector focuses on the learning, development and care of children in the UK, there were approximately 1.7 million Ofsted registered childcare places for children offered by many different types of early years settings in England in 2019, ranging from childminders and nannies to nurseries, crèches and preschools. Knowledge of child development is important in a variety of occupations outside of childcare and teaching, for example, in healthcare roles such as paediatricians, psychologists, occupational therapists, and speech and language therapists.
KS5: Pearson Level 3 AAQ BTEC National in Early Childhood Development (Extended Certificate)
This qualification is equivalent in size to one A Level and is ideal for students interested in Education and Early Years who may wish to progress to university and future careers working with children. The course combines academic learning with practical, real-world application and develops the knowledge and skills needed for further study and employment. Students study four key areas: Children’s Development, exploring development from birth to eight years and the factors that influence it; Keeping Children Safe, focusing on safeguarding, health and safety and responding to concerns; Play and Learning, examining how play supports children’s learning and development; and Research and Reflective Practice, exploring how research influences early years policy, provision and professional practice.
